“I Think This Man Could be a Part of my Life”

By Emily Lynch

As I scanned the crowd and looked at the reactions of the people who had stopped and watched, I saw Betty reading the booklet thoroughly. She looked interested in the gospel message being portrayed in the tract.  As the drama was ending, I made my way across the crowd to the woman.  “What do you think?” I asked, gesturing to the booklet and to the dramas, wondering what her reaction would be. I was not prepared for the profound answer she gave me.  “I think this man could be a part of my life,” she said very solemnly, pointing to the man in the white shirt.

Betty was visiting Hong Kong from England and told me that she was now being challenged in what she believed. She quickly went back to reading the booklet. “What do you believe?”  I asked her.  “This here looks like what I want to believe,” said answered, pointing to the book in her hand. After talking a little bit more, I asked her if she was ready to believe and ask the man in white to come into her life. I was feeling hopeful, but she responded, “Not quite yet.”  Although she didn’t ask Jesus to be her Savior right then, I noticed that her expression was more peaceful than it was when she had first stopped to watch the dramas. I knew that this was a meaningful day in her journey towards God.  As she turned to leave, I quickly gave her a booklet that described how to know God personally.  “This will tell you how to let the man in white be a part of your life,” I said.

“I’ll read it later.” She responded. “Thank you, love,” she said as walked away.

I pray that God continues to grow the seed that was planted there on the streets of Hong Kong.  This woman is very close to knowing who God is and having a personal relationship with him.  I thank God that our paths crossed because I was encouraged by her just as much as she was encouraged and challenged by me. I thank God for getting to share the good news with her, and I am praying that one day she will come to know the man in white.
