“I Have Been Praying!”

By Evelyn Yeung

One night as we finished doing dramas, I approached an old man standing in the crowd. I asked if he understood what the dramas meant, but then realized that he had just arrived and not seen the dramas. I then asked if he knew about Jesus, and started sharing the gospel with him, using the evangelism tracks that YFC, our local connection in Hong Kong, gave us. After sharing, I was nervous and wanted to end the conversation, but I felt like I should give him a chance to respond.

When Tanya, our team leader, asked him if he understood the significance of the prayer he just prayed, he shook his head and looked a bit dazed. This worried me because I wasn’t sure how much he actually understood in the gospel. I was worried that I did not do a good job sharing the message clearly. So Tanya and I used a few more ways to illustrate the gospel to him. When the conversation ended, David told us that he understood, but I still had lots of doubts in my heart. That night, I shared with my teammates and they encouraged me to have faith in God, that God was using this for good and knew his heart.

A few days later, we went back to Ladies Street to do ministry, and David came back! He seemed like a whole different person! When we asked him what he had been doing since we last met, he told us that he had been praying, and that he had already told his friends about his decision. He told us that his Christian coworkers would teach him more about the Bible. My heart was filled with joy as I talked with this new brother in Christ, and God proved to me that He was in charge of even things unseen to me. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to meet and share with this man, who I know I will meet again one day in heaven!
